Welcome MOM!

Mommy Exclusive "ME" time

The dreadful and frightening C-section demystified

January 30, 2022

Happy Sunday MOMS!

Tonight’s blog post is for the moms who are or were scared of having a c-section.

Moms, I want you to take a deep breath relax, and release your fears of the unknown. Everything will turn out fine and you will give birth to your healthy and beautiful baby!

Pre C-section

I vividly remember the day the doctor told me that my son was breeched.  Four weeks prior, he was facing the downward position and looked cozy. For some reason he decided it was best for him to just sit up straight and stay that way.

Now I’ll be honest, I did NOT take this news well. I was SCARED!!!!!! TERRIFIED!!!!! I could not believe this was my reality. Especially when I did not know too many women that had a c-section. So, I felt alone. I felt irritated when mothers who had vaginal births would tell me it will be okay. My eyes would roll with the “so easy for you to say” stank face. Which was honestly not fair. I recognize that now, but a mother heating the words c-section for the first time, is some scary $hit!

After the initial shock, like many mothers, I decided to do some research on the procedure. My initial research frightened me. It frightened me to the point where I asked the doctor if there were other options besides vaginal and Caesarean LOL. Like can I poop him out, cough him out, something else please? LOL. That is how scared I was!!!!!!!

Then something told me to take my research to YouTube. Now MOM, before you go on YouTube, remember every mothers experience is a little different. So, take each specific detail  with a grain of salt. You can follow their tips though, because they are beneficial to all after a major surgery.

What I found on YouTube was MOMS who were up and walking the same day, the next day, and a week later. I was confused because that is not what google told me lol. Google told me I’d be bed ridden and in excruciating pain.

This is exactly why it is important to do some research yes, because you want to know what the procedure is and how it is performed, but, also calm yourself down because your experience may be great.

So, let’s just get into what it is like in the operating room.

During C- section

When I tell y’all I was SHOOK, I was shaking when they came to get me to walk to the operating room.

*Heads up- DAD or support person cannot be in the operating room until they are ready to perform the procedure. So, while you are being prepped, you are on your own*

Entering the operating room is intimidating. It is a bright room full of bright lights. Doctors and nurses are all over the room getting prepared to deliver your baby. At this point, there was no turning back. The only way for my son to be born was through a c-section. So, I told myself to relax and pray that everything goes well.

*The hospital you choose plays an important role in how the next series of events will play out for you*

My anesthesiologist, nurse, and doctor were the BEST! They were doing a great job of distracting me from thinking about the procedure. The anesthesiologist was able to do my spinal quickly without me feeling a thing. A few seconds after the spinal, my body was going numb. The nurses and doctors laid me back and lifted me onto the operating table.

Then, my fiance was brought in. When I tell y’all from that point on I felt NOTHING, I felt absolutely NOTHING! My fiance on the other hand was sitting there the entire time looking like he was going to $hit himself lol. He was terrified because he could see what was going on and was worried that I could feel it. I promise, I did not feel a thing.

I’ve read and watched so many mothers experiences and heard them say they could feel pulling and tugging. I did not feel one pull or one tug AT ALL. I was completely numb and had no idea they were pulling out my son until I heard him. The sweetest little cry of an 8 pound baby boy. I had not one feeling of any of the pain that I imagined I would feel. Which was shocking because I remember hearing them say “we may have to make a bigger incision, the baby is bigger than expected.”

So, my surgery went very WELL! I gave birth to an 8 pound baby and did not feel like it lol!

C-section recovery

So, after you have your baby, and are monitored for a while, you can go to your recovery room. The first night in the hospital, I could not keep my eyes open for longer than 5 minutes. I sadly missed majority of my son’s first night Luckily, daddy was right there holding it down!

Now, I know some moms may have been scared of the procedure, but I think I speak for everyone when I say the scariest for all of us was the recovery. Well, I am here to tell you NOTHING I feared of during the recovery process happened. (I did have minor concerns, but nothing like the issues I imagined)

Catheter – did not feel it

Uterus massages every couple of hours – did not feel it

First bowel movement- did not hurt

First walk – was not painful, but was uncomfortable and a little hard to adjust to (my fiance walked around the delivery part of the hospital with me at least 10 times lol)

First shower – felt great

Ride home – uncomfortable, but bearable

These are all of the things I was worried about, and yet none of them turned out how I expected.

My purpose

My reason for sharing my c-section story is to provide a mom out there with the hope that she could also have a smooth delivery and recovery. My original plan was to write this post in a way that could be relatable to every single mom, then I realized that is impossible. Every birth truly is different!

So, I hope you take this story as another example of a mom that was scared of a c-section and ended up having a great experience! Good luck on your delivery and recovery journey MOM! See you next Sunday at 7pm!
